Wayne Petersen is the Director of the Massachusetts Important Bird Areas (IBA) Program at Mass Audubon, prior to which he was the senior Field Ornithologist for 15 years. As co-author of Birds of Massachusetts (1993) and co-editor of the Massachusetts Breeding Bird Atlas (2003), his understanding of the habitats, distribution, and status of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' bird life is both extensive and wide-ranging. Wayne's knowledge of the seasonal distribution of New England bird life gives him a wide perspective when thinking about Important Bird Areas in Massachusetts and beyond. He also leads international birding tours for Mass Audubon and Field Guides, Inc. In 2005 Wayne was the recipient of the American Birding Association’s Ludlow Griscom Award for outstanding contributions in regional ornithology.

Quote from Wayne Petersen
“Through my work with Mass Audubon’s Important Bird Areas Program, I have come to fully appreciate the significant role that quality bird habitat plays in bird conservation. By spreading the word about ‘Bird Friendly’ coffee, we can have a tremendously positive impact in helping to preserve habitat for the migratory birds that we know and love during their time away from Massachusetts.”
