The Gayo Organic coffee Farmers Association (PPKGO) is an organic Fair Trade co-operative located in the Gayo Highlands of the Aceh province of Sumatra, Indonesia. The co-op was founded in 1997 and became Fair Trade certified in 2000. Its member farms range between 1100m-1500m (3500 and 5000 ft), and grow several varietals of Arabica coffee: Bergendal, Catimor, Caturra, Sidikalang, and Typica.
Members produce 100% shade grown, organic coffee. Members include a diverse compliment ethnicities including Gayo, Javanese, Acehnese, Padang, and Batak peoples. 20% of PPKGO's members are women.
Member farms are in an environmentally sensitive region: the buffer zone to Gunung Leuser National Park, wich contains critical watershed areas and sanctuaries for endangered species such as the Sumatran tiger.
This OCIA certified organic Sumatra semi-washed coffee is complex, full bodied, and earthy. It is fruity with a tobacco aftertaste. Our Sumatra Takengon coffee is Organic, Shade Grown and Fair Trade certified.
Available as roasted whole beans or green for roasting at home.
